“I went on an impromptu adventure to West Africa, to land of my ancestors. It ended up being so much more. I want to share that journey with you.” – Rachel Decoste, author.
As descendants of enslaved Africans, we have been taught a version of Africa that is rooted in colonialism. I went to find out for myself what treasures lie therein. I also exorcized the demons left by the slave trade remnant buildings. Overall, it was a trip worth making, an adventure worth telling, and lessons worth sharing with my brothers and sisters in the Americas.
